Fizzy Blood: “We’re here to deliver strong and stable rock and roll”

Yorkshire lads Fizzy Blood were undoubtedly one of our highlights at Download Festival this year. Their set on the Dogtooth stage was easily one of the most energetic and fun of the weekend and we managed to catch up with the guys to find out just what all the fuss was about, and what the future holds.

The first thing that struck us was just their pure excitement at being able to do their thing here at Donington as guitarist Paul Howells tells us: “It’s amazing! I’ve been here all weekend just having the best time and checking out bands but the rest of the guys only got here today.” It’s nice to see that even with the band’s hectic touring schedule they find time to come and enjoy themselves watching the music that they love.

It’s not the first time the guys have been to Download, as vocalist Benji Inkley tells us: “I came with my dad about 7 years ago and this is my first time back at the Festival since.” Obviously the guys are absolutely buzzing to get on stage, so what can we expect from Fizzy Blood? “Strong and stable rock and roll,” announces Howells with surely one of the best descriptions of a set all weekend, as the rest of the band burst out in laughter.

Once the guys are done delivering strong and stable rock and roll to the masses at Download what have they got up next over the summer? “Well we’ve got 2000 Trees next and then on to Reading and Leeds,” Inkley says. “We’ve just done Camden Rocks too which was great and Reeperbahn in Germany so that’s a pretty solid run of Festivals right there.”

When the band are planning their strong and stable setlist for a festival just how do they go about it and is it much different to a Fizzy Blood headline show? “Not much to be honest,” Inkley says. “If it was any other gig we’d just turn up and play our tunes.” Howell then jumps in: “I think it’s just a bit more light-hearted, we still try and put on the same show that everyone gets when they come and see us but you’re always in good spirits at a festival and that helps the atmosphere.” Inkley delves a little deeper: “I think this time around we’ve just been on tour with While She Sleeps so our set is pretty solid so to be fair you could say it was ‘Strong and Stable’.”

While the guys have been here who have they seen play and who are they excited to see? Howell jumps straight in: “Dinosaur Pile Up! and Aerosmith are the ones for today. While I’ve been here I’ve seen System of a Down and Good Charlotte were great too,”

The guys are clearly getting about a bit over the summer but what’s next in the wonderful world of Fizzy Blood? “Well we’re bringing out a record in August” Howell says, “just before Reading & Leeds we’ve got an EP coming out called ‘Summer of Love’ and then we’re gonna be touring the UK so look out for more details on that to come.”

The future looks pretty strong and stable for Fizzy Blood and Howell leaves us with one more statement: “this has been Fizzy Blood with Punktastic at Download 2017 and rock the fuck on!”

The guys’ new single ‘Summer of Luv’ is out now and they have a number of festival appearances coming up listed below. Until then you can keep up to date with all things Fizzy over at Facebook.
