First play of the new Sailing South single, ‘Rest’

By Glen Bushell

For Californian singer songwriter, Anthony Corrigan, the man behind the deeply personal music of Sailing South, writing songs is his catharsis. Today we are bringing you the first play of his new single, ‘Rest’, which is taken from the forthcoming EP, ‘As You Were.’

“I wrote ‘Rest’ at the ending stages of an 8 month break up,” explains Corrigan of the new single. “It literally dragged out 8 months and if I could go back I’d choose to not run through that hell. I started writing the song under the realization that it was never going to work between the person and I although at the time I wanted it to. The realization came when I was constantly being blown off and come to find out it was for someone else. So the song is filled with a mixture of emotions from “I’m sorry” to complete heartbreak, and I actually wrote the song when I was at an all-time low. I was super depressed and I was drinking a lot. After I wrote ‘Rest’ I felt better. My favourite line is “I’ll forgive you if you forgive me, and I’ll forget you so just forget me.” Every lyric in the song was what I was feeling as I was totally convinced that it was all my fault even though I went above and beyond for this person. I like to say it’s about broken hearts breaking hearts.”

’As You Were’ is released on August 19th via Ronald Records, and is available to pre-order now
