Face Value gear up for sophomore release with ‘Currency’

By Ben Tipple

Having already unveiled the track on a split release with Chris Swartz, Maryland four-piece Face Value are streaming ‘Currency’ in the lead up to their sophomore album release. One of six tracks on ‘Thick As Thieves’, the track indicates the band’s softer approach, stripping their melodic approach further back. Sitting alongside the previously revealed ‘EFF Sharp‘, both tracks showcase Face Value’s heartfelt melodies subtly tinged with pop-punk.

“This song was originally a piano song,” bassist and vocalist Grayson Ross admits of ‘Currency’. “Back in the fall of last year we got the opportunity to do an acoustic track with the very talented, next big producer, Will Beasley. We figured we’d convert ‘Currency’ into a feel good, up-beat acoustic song which we then released on an acoustic split with solo acoustic/emo act Chris Swartz in December 2015. The lyrics themselves though talk about feeling misplaced and left out. Whether from a love interest, friends, or family, everyone has felt out of place by someone in one way or another in their life and we hope this song shows them that they’re not alone. It’s one of our favorite songs that we’ve written and we felt that ‘Currency’ deserved to also be on our sophomore release.”

‘Thick As Thieves’ will be available from the 3rd June and can be pre-ordered via BandCamp. Stream ‘Currency’ using the player below.
