Explore the emotional thrift store with Prima Vera

Although Detroit’s Prima Vera has existed for just over a year, ‘Old TVs and Memories’ marks a fresh start. Despite the track’s retrospective theme, looking back at a broken relationship, in reality it’s about moving forward. Vocalist and guitarist Bryan H. Iglesias has welcomed touring partner Brendan Crocker (bass) and comparable newbie John Kick (drums) into the fold proper, with things now look set to take off.

“Brendan and John have been there with me through thick and thin and I’m so excited to bring them along as official members,” Iglesias explains. “‘Old TVs and Memories’ was the first song that we wrote as a group, so it felt right to make it the first single and music video, as the new lineup, as well. With help from my talented friend Teri Cwiek, I think we created something that represented our personalities and music very well.”

The collaboration has paid off, with ‘Old TVs and Memories’ offering a brilliant soundtrack to a very indie-punk break-up. “The music video was a lot of fun to shoot,” Brendan Crocker adds, “and is a really good representation of this lineup, because it was the first song that each member had influence in writing.”

“I’m insanely excited for what’s in store for Prima Vera. We’ve been working hard on this new release but most importantly we’ve been having fun,” John Kick begins to sum up. “Shooting/recording ‘Old TVs…’ was a great experience. I got to hang out with my best friends behind a camera and work with some very talented people. What I hope is that our personalities bleed through the video a bit and you get a better sense of who we are.”

Judging from this, Prima Vera are making a dash towards the throne. With their new EP, ‘Floral Media’, on the horizon, we wouldn’t be surprised to see much more of this trio over the coming year.

‘Floral Media’ will see two other new tracks as well as ‘Old TVs and Memories’, due for release on the 9th February 2016. The band will be playing a release show on the 12th of that month at Detroit’s Majestic Café, presented by Urban Geographer.

Details of the show can be found on Facebook, and tickets are available here.
