Exclusive run through of High Down’s EP ‘Moving On’

By Mark Johnson

Portsmouth-based pop-punkers High Down release their new EP ‘Moving On’ on September 1 and to help you prepare for the release, we have an exclusive track-by-track run through, curated by the band.

Life Lessons

In life we all have dreams and goals we are aiming to achieve. Sadly, we can be weighed down by others who try to drag us down and hold us back. ‘Life Lessons’ was written during a difficult time when we felt held back from doing what we wanted to do due to certain people in our lives. Although this can make things difficult, we must never let another person stop us from doing the things we want to do and being the person we want to be. The song talks about moving past this and putting these people behind you to allow you to move on and grow.

Making History

Track two on our EP, ‘Making History’ is all about good times with our friends and what it’s like to be in a band. Talking through stories of being on tour, the good times and the bad times, this song represents how strong the friendships are within High Down. It also shares a message to say that we are here and nobody is stopping us until we are at the top – that’s not about how big we get as a band, but how much we love every second of it, and sharing that with new people in new places. We want to show the world that anything is possible when you put your mind to it.

All On You

‘All On You’ was written directly about somebody who used to be a friend of Luke’s. Sadly, the person described let him down and made some terrible choices which led to a bad fallout of friends. This song tells a story of this tragedy and what it led to.
People may relate to this in a similar way whether they’ve been let down by a friend or relative, it’s not uncommon to happen to us at some point during our lives. Although it was written about Luke’s situation, it’s a song every single one of us has related to a similar personal experience.

Rescue Me

No matter who you are, almost everybody goes through a difficult time at some point during their lives. Whether it be mourning a loss, dealing with a rough breakup or dealing with the stress that life brings. ‘Rescue Me’ was written for those people who pick us up in our darkest hour, when we are at our lowest of lows. May it be a friend, relative or partner, this song is dedicated to those who rescue us when we are most in need. It’s a personal ‘thank you’ to those who have kept us strong enough to be doing this today.

Sink or Swim

For us, music is all about sharing a message, making new friends and having fun. Unfortunately, there are also a small number of people who go into music for the wrong reasons, such as money and fame, and only thinking about their personal gain… people who use their standing in the industry to take advantage. ‘Sink or Swim’ is a track directed at these people, to say ‘there’s a much more meaningful depth to music’.

Pre-orders for ‘Moving On’ are available now at the band’s merch page.
