Currents, a band named after the power and constant movement of our oceans, are slowly but steadily climbing a promising ladder and making a name for themselves. One such example is that they’re currently touring with tech-death metal champions Miss May I and Upon A Burning Body, an experience that vocalist Brian Wille has described as amazing, especially as "crowds have been great, the reception has been warm and the other bands on the bill have been super cool and helpful to us”.

Initially describing the tour as nerve-wracking, those feelings come second to those that Currents are experiencing as they get ready to release their debut album ‘The Place I Feel Safest’. As well as feeling nervous, Brian assures us that the band is “super excited. We got physicals [today] and it’s the weirdest feeling; we’re nervous but I think our excitement for the reception and for our future is more prevalent.”

It’s an album that looks at concepts ranging from depression, abandonment, abuse and anger, to drug addiction and climate change. Brian is a passionate advocate of global environmental issues and the decision made by President Trump to pull the USA out of the Paris Agreement on Climate Change has given Brian cause for concern.

“With multiple moves, our administration has proven they don’t see climate change as an issue and that blows my mind,” the front-man explains. “It’s crazy to me that something so apparent is being swept under the rug in favour of other pursuits.”

The album was recorded before the election of President Trump but Brian promises that he “has plenty of ammo for the next album.”

Pushing away the thought of the current political situation in the USA, Brian is excited for the future and what it holds in store for Currents.

“We’d love to keep touring this record, and see and do as much as we possibly can off of it,” he enthuses. “We’re definitely excited to see where this goes!”

‘The Place I Feel Safest’ is out now via SharpTone Records and can be purchased here.
