Carson Wells scale a reflective tower of their own design on new track, ‘Same Grave’

Carson Wells are exclusively premiering their new song, ‘Same Grave’, with us at Punktastic.

The song sees the Aberdeen emo/post hardcore trio take on a path that slowly builds it’s way up into a reflectively powerful emotive journey. “We had been sitting on a couple of songs, including ‘Same Grave’, for a while and were not really sure what to do with them,” explains vocalist/bassist Huw Gurden. “We wrote the music for this song in 2014, but we didn’t feel it was really in keeping with the most recent stuff we had been writing.” Eventually this all “sort of fell into place” for the song when German label Time as a Color got in touch earlier this year with the trio, asking them if they wanted to take part in an upcoming compilation marking it’s tenth anniversary.”

As for the track’s recording process, Gurden states, “We had access to a really great sounding practice room/studio in Glasgow for a while last year. One of Iain’s school friends, Scott sorted us out with the space as he had been keen for a while to record us. It was a perfect opportunity to document these songs, work with Scott and take advantage of this plush studio we were in.”

“We have always recorded multitrack, but this track was recorded live – something we have wanted to do, but up until now have never been brave enough to have a go at. It was dead interesting to challenge ourselves with this and I think the end result does have a real live vibe about it. Huge credit is due to Scott though, who gave us a pretty incredible final mixdown and master within a super tight time frame.”

‘Same Grave’ by Carson Wells is featured on Time as a Color Records’ upcoming tenth anniversary compilation, which also features tracks by Human Hands, Coma Regalia, Lorraine, Bail and more. It will be officially released on vinyl this April and can be pre-ordered here. Carson Wells will also be releasing their yet to be titled third album later this year, details of which shall be finalised this summer. It follows up their 2014 sophomore effort ‘Tread a Northern Path’. The trio will also be playing at Tunnels in Aberdeen tomorrow, on Saturday 25th February, with Pinact and Bucket.
