Be happy being sad with the new Larkhill EP

By Ben Tipple

Larkhill are sad. Born out of Seasonal Affective Disorder and primary songwriter Miz Trujillo’s complicated past, the London via Brighton punks wear their downtrodden heart firmly on their sleeve. Having left their Grayscale moniker behind, Larkhill marks the acceptance of unhappiness and soundtracks the relief that provides.

“It seems crazy to think that this is actually our first release since leaving the name Grayscale behind, I think it’s the perfect transition between the really dark band we were and the band we have become,” Miz explains. “In many ways this EP was me to standing up to my depression, a realisation that although it’s always there I can control it to an extent, I can decide to be a happier person, even if at times I fail miserably.”

Somewhat removed from their Grayscale sound, the EP balances catchy choruses with painfully honest lyrics. It’s an insight into a troubled mind, but one that has in some senses found comfort in its complication.

‘Larkhill’ will be available from the 17th November 2015. The band are currently gearing up for a tour alongside fellow Brighton punks Harker, plus a Newport date with Apologies, I Have None and Hindsights.
