As ‘Best Friends’ turns from its subtle intro to vocalist and guitarist Max Idas’ snarls, Southern Californian outfit The Chili Banditos announce themselves with an unquestionable confidence. Perhaps initially easy to compare to the likes of The Front Bottoms or pre-‘Holy Ghost’ Modern Baseball, their emo-grunge sound on ‘It’s Always Sunny In San Diego’ immediately quashes early pigeonholing.
Instead, The Chili Banditos think outside of the box, ranging from the FIDLAR-esque sounds of ‘I Do (I Don’t)’ and ‘Just Play It’ to the acoustic indie-punk of the tastily titled ‘Tacopunk4life’. Regardless of the particular sound, it’s delivered with a gritty raw passion that easily sets The Chili Banditos up as the next exciting prospect for the ever-emerging stateside punk underground.
