More often than not, a bands name catches your attention before the music. Given that Maryland trio, Jackal Onasis, have the best band name since Ringo Deathstarr, I was instantly intrigued. While paying homage to a character from the cult TV show, ‘Party Down’, they create the perfect soundtrack to the dry, sarcastic humour that is embedded in their songs.

Drawing from post hardcore, dream pop, and indie rock, they surprise you are every turn which is echoed by their debut album, ‘Big Deal Party’. They are as dissonant as they are melodic, and when they aren’t making a low-end racket, they are bright and blissful. Whether you see the name first or hear their music, ultimately the end result is the same. You will no doubt be as sucked into Jackal Onasis as I am.
