According to Wales Online, former Lostprophets singer Ian Watkins has been sentenced to 35 years at Cardiff Crown Court after pleading guilty to 13 serious child sex offences last month. His co-defendants, who cannot be named (Woman A and Woman B), have been sentenced to 14 years and 17 years respectively.

Watkins received a 29 year sentence, plus an addition 6 via extended license due to the severity of the crime. He must serve two thirds before he is able to be considered for release.

Mr Justice Royal stated that the case broke new ground, telling the defendants that what they did “plumbs new depths of depravity”.

He added that “any decent person looking at or listening to material here would experience shock, revulsion, anger and incredulity.”

The judge claimed that Watkins had shown “an almost complete lack of remorse”, even expressing “delight”, for his behaviour and that his continued risk towards young women and children played a part in his sentencing.

Quotes from the article:

The main gist of the defence mitigation is that Watkins was effectively “set up” by fans bombarding him with sexual attention, while his drug use meant he was out of control and couldn’t remember his actions.

Discussing his possible sentence, he added: “I’m going to put a statement on the 18th now just to say it was megalolz, I don’t know what everyone is getting so freaked out about.”
