Frank Turner announces new album, UK & Ireland tour dates and streams new track ‘1933’

By James Davenport

Frank Turner has shared the release details for his forthcoming seventh studio album ‘Be More Kind’, due out May 4th via Xtra Mile Recordings/Polydor Records. The album has been produced by ex-White Denim members Austin Jenkins and Joshua Block, alongside Charlie Hugall (Florence And The Machine, Halsey).

The announcement arrives alongside ‘1933’, the first track to emerge from ‘Be More Kind’.

‘1933’ is inspired by articles Turner had come across that posit the idea that the alt-right is punk rock. “That filled me with a mixture of incredulity and anger,” says Turner. “The idea that Breitbart or Steve Bannon think they have anything to do with punk rock makes me extremely angry.”

Inspired by a line from a Clive James poem – “I should have been more kind. It is my fate. To find this out, but find it out too late” – ‘Be More Kind’ captures Turner reconciling the personal with the political. Says Frank; “A lot of older, wiser people tend to say things like that, that the things that come out in the wash at the end of a human life are the way you treated the people around you. In the modern world, that’s a lesson that all of us, myself included could do to learn.”

At 19.33pm GMT Frank will be doing a very special Facebook live Q&A and acoustic performance of first track ‘1933’.
