Lauren Novik hung out with Joshua & Matthew from Motion City Soundtrack before their set where they told us about the not-so-secret Warped Wrestling matches and what each of them has inside their bunks….
LN: HOW YOU GUYS DOING TODAY?
MCS: We’re doing great, awesome- it’s a really good day!
LN: YOU GUYS ARE NO STRANGERS TO WARPED TOUR – WHAT’S THE CRAZIEST THING THAT’S GONE ON SO FAR THIS YEAR?
MCS: Really the only thing that’s gone on so far that’s made people kind of talk is Anto (Boros) from The Swellers late one night started an impromptu just out of nowhere wrestling match with John from The Wonder Years’ camp- and the entire Warped Tour crew and bands- just everybody kind of gathered around.
LN: IT WAS LIKE A FULL ON WWE…
MCS: Full on bumps & bruises- there are some vines on the internet, you have to look it up it was amazing. They ended up in like a dumpster, body slamming each other- and it’s happening again tonight at 9pm- it’s going to start in catering, and it ends at the beach! We’re very excited!
LN: THAT SOUNDS CRAZY. I MAY HAVE TO STAY LATE!
MCS: It’s so worth it. It’s actually the same time yoga starts, which is a little weird.
LN: ALRIGHT. ON ANOTHER NONE WWE RAW NOTE, WARPED IS HEADING BACK TO THE UK THIS FALL THEN ON TO EUROPE – HOW IMPORTANT DO YOU THINK IT IS TO KEEP EXPANDING TO OTHER PLACES?
MCS: I think it’s great! I think it’s a very cool thing- spread the word. Share the love.
LN: WARPED HAS BEEN PRETTY CONSISTENTLY POPULAR EVERY YEAR SINCE IT STARTED – WHY DO YOU THINK THAT IS?
MCS: I think the secret is having a good mix of bands! A good mix of younger and older- it just adds so much value to the ticket! I think Kevin and everyone involved with Warped Tour, and in booking it- they’ve just always been really good at knowing what’s cool right now, and what’s going to be cool, and what’s good overall. They put together a really good package.
LN: ALRIGHT – IF YOU GUYS HAD TO BE STRANDED ON A DESERTED ISLAND WITH ONE OTHER BAND FROM THIS YEAR’S LINEUP – WHO WOULD IT BE?
MCS: I’m going to have to say The Swellers because they’re strong, and they can save me. Yeah- they’re like real buff. And, they’re funny.
LN: AND, IN CASE A WRESTING MATCH BREAKS OUT – YOU’LL PROBABLY WANT THEM FOR BACK UP.
MCS: Exactly. And the entertainment factor. Plus, two of them are brothers- so they’ve got the family thing going on also.
LN: ANY GUILTY PLEASURE ITEAMS YOU HAVE TO BRING ON TOUR WITH YOU TO FEEL AT HOME?
MCS: (unanimously) VIDEO GAMES!
LN: WHICH?
MCS: We’re a little embarassed about this actually.
LN: DUDE, EMBRACE IT.
MCS: You’re right. So, we’ve each got our own Xbox in our bunk attached to the wall with our own TVs that we bring on tour- because the bunk TVs are too small. I was probably up till 3 or 4 this morning playing. Justin, Jesse- four of us have them in there- it’s stupid.
LN: SO NOT SKYRIM THEN?
MCS: I’ve dabbled in Skyrim. I got weirdly close to the end of it and then I was just like, I’m over playing this. I was lost somewhere in a basement under the world and I was like I don’t even know what quest I’m trying to do anymore!
LN: I MADE A CHARACTER AND GOT BORED INSTANTLY.
MCS: How cool are we all right now.
LN: BACK TO EVEN COOLER THINGS – YOU AMPED FOR YOUR SET LATER?
MCS: Yeah, definitely!
LN: I HAVEN’T SEEN YOU GUYS IN A BIT – WHAT CAN I EXPECT?
MCS: Probably some songs.
LN: I DIDN’T SEE THAT COMING.
MCS: Yeah we decided not to do a comedy set today, we’re going to sing instead. I actually haven’t looked at the setlist today- I have no idea what we’re going to play.
LN: ANYTHING YOU’D LIKE TO HAPPEN AT SOME POINT ON THE REST OF THIS TOUR – IF YOU COULD MAKE ANYTHING HAPPEN?
MCS: More wrestling. And, parties.
