Interview: Marmozets [Slam Dunk 2014]

By Lais

Alarmingly, it’s already been two weeks since the weekend of carnage that was Slam Dunk 2014, but we’ve still got some snippets from the festival for you. At Slam Dunk South, we managed to grab Becca and Sam MacIntyre from the mighty Marmozets for a quick chat about tour stories and playing Warped Tour this summer.

HOW’S YOUR SLAM DUNK GOING SO FAR?

Becca: It’s good. We played yesterday and we’d not played Leeds in two years. It went off a treat and we didn’t expect what we got with crowd reaction and stuff like that. It just went mental. It’s like Christmas for all the bands. We all come together and everyone’s happy. It’s a great start to the festival season.

HOW DO YOU FIND SOUTH COMPARED TO NORTH?

Becca: It’s always sunnier here, which is a treat. I like the layout, it feels more like a festival. It was pretty grim yesterday with the weather. So much rain.

WHAT ARE YOU EXPECTING FROM YOUR SET LATER?

Becca: We just want everyone to get involved and have a good time.

WE’VE BEEN ASKING PEOPLE TO TELL US ANY GOOD TOUR STORIES THEY’VE GOT. DO ANY SPRING TO MIND?

Sam: Yeah, there was one time at Download the guitarist from The JCQ stayed in our tent and got up in the early hours of the morning and decided to piss in our tent everywhere. He was smashed.
Becca: And now we call him Pissy Pants every time we see him.
Sam: That was quite funny.

WAS IT FUNNY AT THE TIME?

Sam: No, I was pretty pissed off.
Becca: Yeah, he pissed everywhere. But he admitted to it, which is pretty awesome.
Sam: We were laughing about it. We were like, how fucked must you be to do that? I don’t think he was in a good way the next day. I think he genuinely thought our tent was the toilet.

ARE YOU GONNA BE WATCHING ANY BANDS THIS WEEKEND?

Becca: I actually watched The All-American Rejects last night. I kind of fangirled a little bit because I recognised the songs. I’ve never seen them before and I recognised his face from all the videos which I absolutely loved. I just loved it, and I was with Gemma who goes out with Loz from While She Sleeps and we were just dancing together and absolutely loving it. That was the only band I got to see so hopefully I’ll get to see some other bands today. I think I might try and watch Blitz Kids.
Sam: They’ve already played!
Becca: Maybe tomorrow then. We’re going straight to Wolverhampton tonight to stay in our hotel so I can get there whenever I want tomorrow.

WILL YOU BE PARTYING TONIGHT?

Both: Every night!

WHAT HAVE YOU GOT LINED UP FOR AFTER SLAM DUNK?

Sam: All sorts.
Becca: Oh man, we’ve got Warped Tour, we’ve got Download, we’ve got Leeds and Reading. We’ve got a wild summer. We’re in America for over a month. We’ve only been once before to play a show for a label so we’re super excited!
