Glasgow fivesome DB68 are set to explode into your consciousness with their infectious razor riffs ‘n’ synths sound and heart-wrenchingly raw lyrics to prove that this genre of music means so much more than the latest baggies, tats and chains. The group formed in early 2002 spurred into existence by artists as diverse as The Get Up Kids, Motion City Soundtrack, the Wannadies and Everclear.Since then they have been winning over a growing number of obssesive devotees from gigs with the likes of Midtown, Rx Bandits, Recover, The Exit, Lightyear, ThisGirl, The Towers of London and X Is Loaded. Their first two EPs sold in excess of eight hundred copies as a result. These painfully honest tracks masking darker lyrical content under shiny pop hooks are clearly connecting with an army of like minded individuals. It’s live, however, that this fiery five-piece truly come into their own; an incredibly easy on the eye, frenzied blur of hair, sweat and ink. They play like their lives depended on it spewing out a dizzyingly blend of catchy melodies and singalong choruses and their deranged onstage attack makes for an intense and truly unmissable experience. DB68 are currently writing and recording new material and their new EP ‘The Start’ will be out on local label Struck Dumb Records in the New Year. On the strength of these tracks and the bands new super-tight line-up, day jobs are soon to be ditched and the rock world will have a new set of poster boys. Prepare to have your pre-conceptions shattered. Andy Cannon (vox/guitar), David Gillespie (moogs/keys), Marshall (guitar), Dave MacTaggart (bass/backing vox), Pete Cannon (drums) Words by Camilla Pia (jounalist for Kerrang, The List and Scotland on Sunday)
