Struckdown – Revolution

By paul

Remember that TV show caled Erie, Indiana? It was about a kid that had some kind of super powers, or at least odd things always seem to happen to him anyway. Well it seems like the town of Erie could well have a set of new favourite sons. Struckdown release their new record early next year and the Erie natives’ brand of posi-hardcore is pretty infectious. ‘Revolution’ is a record that is energetic, fun and, at times, is even pretty tongue-in-cheek. I mean they even have a song called ‘Moshpit’ that starts off wth a guitar lick GnR would have been proud of, before finishing with a series of ‘woah-ohs’ that Agnostic Front have trademarked.

If it wasn’t for the bonus track this record would weigh in at less than 20 minutes. It certainly doesn’t outstay its welcome – ‘Humanity’ pushes the pedal to the floor while ‘Education’ is a bit of a ripper. I guess Struckdown tick all the hardcore boxes – there are riffs aplenty, strong vocals and enough breakdowns to keep a floor-punching kid happy for weeks. There’s nothing a stack of other bands haven’t covered before, but tracks like ‘Your Disease’ and ‘Purity’ are good enough to warrant repeated listens. If you’re a fan of hardcore bands then Struckdown are well worth checking out.
