To have a startlingly strong and well-crafted EP when you’re barely out of the starting blocks is an incredible feat, but it’s something that this Birmingham quintet has achieved with ease and finesse. Their debut EP ‘Nothing’ is something to really sing about.
Opening with ‘Cheapside’, they dive head-first into a release that’s packed with some massive melodic rock tunes. Slabs of chunky riffs and a plethora of catchy hooks make up ‘Boys and Girls’, whilst a sharp alternative edge rips through ‘Miserable’, which sees frontman Spencer Edmonds deliver his delicious vocals through woeful lyrics such as “I wish I was dead / not alive anymore, buried instead / call me Mr. Miserable”.
Single ‘Art School’ opens with surprisingly bouncy riffs before descending into absolute chaos; Edmonds howls his pain out, creating a track that’ll get fists pumping and bodies moving. The chorus during ‘E Street’ is frenetic, frantic, and desperate – again, Edmonds really displays his heart on his sleeve with his misanthropic lyrics.
Packed with chunky riffs and an abundance of energy, Beaumont’s debut release is pretty damn huge. In short, Beaumont is a band that you need to know this year. Get on it.
